Veterinary Nurse Training

Cundall & Duffy Veterinary Surgery is an RCVS approved Training Practice, and trains people who want to become qualified veterinary nurses.

To become a qualified veterinary nurse you must be over 16 years old, and work in an approved veterinary nurse training practice (TP).

To be accepted onto the course you need to have gained five GCSEs at Grade C or above including English, Maths and Science.

Successful student nurses work full time within the practice under supervision of our qualified nurses and assessor while undertaking a two year course on a day release basis at college.  Alongside the course the student will be expected to complete an NVQ style portfolio which consists of case logs. In the case studies they have to show evidence of all aspects of their work, from dispensing drugs, communicating with clients, admitting pets for operations, radiography, medical and surgical nursing.

At the end of the first year of training, student nurses have two written exams which, with their portfolio, must be passed before they can move on to their second year.

At the end of the second year there is two more written exams and practical tasks to complete along with their portfiolio.  Only once this is all completed and achieved the student which achieve their veterinary nursing status and will be able to wear their badge.
